General APA Writing Tips

All academic papers must be formatted on standard-sized paper and double-spaced typed. Here, the standard-sized paper is 8.5″ x 11″, with 1 margins on all four sides. Also, Times New Roman (12pt.) is the recommended font type and size as it is visible and highly readable. The structure of the paper must comprise the title page, abstract, main body, and references page. However, some universities may not require an abstract.

The formatting of the title page is crucial, especially with the changes incorporated in APA Style 7th Edition: it must include the assignment title, student name, name of the institution, course name, instructor name, and assignment due date. No running head is required. In the abstract section, keywords should be indented inch. At least 3 keywords should be provided if required for the paper. The reference page should come last and be written (bold and centered) at the top of a new page. All references must be put alphabetically under the References labeled title. Also, a hanging indent must be applied to the reference list such that the first line of the reference is aligned to the left, and all other lines get indented 0.5 inches.
