In FAMS 160, the overall guiding question for the course is: How does (and has) society impact(ed) families? Reading and then addressing the issues of how Slater intertwines varying perspectives of a criminal event in the U.S. provides one way to explore this question.
After reading The 57 Bus:
In your own words, write a short (1 paragraph) discussion of the critical issue(s) that Slater depicts of what happened on the 57 bus and its impacts on the key characters. (DO NOT GOOGLE THIS?THAT WOULD BE PLAGARISM AND RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE)
We have discussed the impact of structural issues on individuals and families throughout the semester. In this section, you will choose three structural issues and discuss how these structural issues (i.e., racism, classism, gender norming, the criminal justice system, etc.,) impacted what happened on the 57 bus and the aftermath for the key characters/families.
This paper is your opportunity to explore and engage in these conversations. You may have to draw from other course content and discussions to illustrate your answers. Remember, there are no simple answers, so we are looking for thoughtful discussions.
Provide examples from the book in your own words to support your discussion. Avoid using quotes from the book, except to support your points?rather paraphrase the book. That is, if you include a quote, you must also include a discussion about the quote. Also, include page number for reference when possible.
Papers must be typed, with 1? margins on all 4 sides, and double-spaced. Paragraphs should not be any more than a ? page, double-spaced.
You must use headings in your paper as demonstrated below (please come up with your own descriptive headings) Again, you will need three of these examples with headers in addition to your summary of critical issues
