Last week we spent a lot of time discussing the idea of “love.” Share with me what you learned about love while reading and discussing “The Whitsun Weddings,” “Sonnet 116,” “They Sit Together on the Porch,” “Summer Storm,” “Orpheus & Eurydice.”
Your essay must include 6-8 specific examples from the poems and the story.
Some of you might want to begin with a sentence like this –
While reading and discussing last week’s poems and story, I learned a lot about love. I had never thought about how death can motivate us to love faithfully and intensely. “They Sit Together on the Porch” says the only thing their one mind didn’t know was which would go first into the dark house and which would sit on a while alone. But the idea of being separated by death, does not mean love ends. In the words of Sonnet 116, “Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom.”
